1887: Royal Jubilee Exhibition, Old Trafford: Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria
The Manchester Royal Jubilee Exhibition opened in May 1887, to celebrate the Golden (50th) Jubilee of Queen Victoria, who ascended the throne on 20-21 June 1837. Constructed on the ground of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Old Trafford (later White City and today, White City Retail Park), the art, science and technology exhibition attracted over 4.5 million visitors.
For more information about the history of White City, and the exhibitions which took place on its grounds, visit our exhibition 'The History of White City, Old Trafford'.
