Superintendent James Bent (1848–1901)
Description
Promoted to the rank of Superintendent of the Manchester Division of the Lancashire Constabulary, James Bent was responsible for the creation of a soup kitchen in Old Trafford, Stretford. This programme was likely responsible for the survival of thousands of children from starvation during the winter of 1878. On 26th March 2010, a blue plaque was erected at RCL Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Building in Old Trafford.
