Description
To commemorate the men who enlisted in the First World War (1914–1918), from 60 houses across Chapel Street, Altrincham. From this modest street, 161 men enlisted and fought in the war; the bravery and sacrifices of several of these men was recognised by King George V.
A commemorative plaque was erected on the wall of the former Grapes Public House, which today stands on the former site of Chapel Street, on 13th September 2009. The street was demolished in 1936.
