Description

Photograph of the 'Wings for Victory' and 'Salute the Soldier' fundraising plaques, presented by the Air Ministry and awarded to the town of Stretford.
In 1943, their target was to raise £480,000. Stretford raised £500,518, which represented the cost of 12 Lancaster bombers.
In 1944, the town aimed to raise £400,000. Following their own 'Salute the Soldier' savings week, they were able to surpass their goal, reaching £469,767. Their contributions funded the equivalent of 20 Churchill tanks, as well as medical supplies and other equipment.
